We had the chance to hear the latest release, “WTF!” by Zarooni, and we were beyond excited. As long-time fans of his work, we immediately headed to his official YouTube Music channel to experience the highly anticipated song and its electrifying music video.
Right from the start, the video pays homage to the iconic music videos of the '80s and '90s, reminiscent of the original MTV and VH1 era. A collection of vintage TVs sets this nostalgic tone, drawing us into a visually immersive experience. Breaking through this retro aesthetic, Zarooni takes center stage in a nightclub infused with the vibrant energy of the '70s and '80s. Dressed head-to-toe in sequins and surrounded by dazzling lights, he commands the stage with an undeniable presence. His captivating aura is magnetic, making it impossible to look away. As he steps onto the platform, the music kicks in with an invigorating intensity, immediately pulling us into its powerful grip.
The groove is tight and unrelenting, surging forward with uncontainable energy. The guitars crash in with a raw, gritty rock ‘n’ roll edge, their crunching distortion fueling the song’s relentless drive. The bass and keys add layers of depth, creating a full-throttle, electrifying atmosphere. Zarooni seizes the mic with commanding physicality, delivering the striking opening lyrics. In that moment, we’re reminded that he isn’t just an artist with an extraordinary visual and sonic appeal, he’s also a lyricist who crafts thought-provoking messages that resonate deeply. Music, at its core, is about connection, and Zarooni excels at thrilling his audience both emotionally and intellectually.
We already can’t get the hypnotic "waaawa waaawa waaawa" guitar riff out of our heads. Meanwhile, Zarooni has transforme the lyric:
“What the fuck have they become?!”
-into an instantly iconic statement that lingers in the mind. As a split-screen effect enters, we see juxtaposed images of carefree dancing alongside the darker, grittier side of the nightclub scene. Fists fly, whispers exchange, and briefcases discreetly pass between hands, creating a stark contrast between the happiness vs the true underbelly of the nightclub scene. This tension reaches a fever pitch as the screen shatters into an electrifying guitar solo that blazes with unrelenting ferocity.
Transitioning back to the audiovisual spectacle, we are fully immersed in the song’s emotional depth. The vibrant, soaring techniques that Zarooni masterfully employs are among our favorite elements of his artistry. Then comes a standout lyrical moment:
“Cuz it’s getting cold / to have any hope / and I see you walking down my road.”
It is at this precise moment that we realize Zarooni is engaging in an intimate, reflective dialogue with himself. This moment of self-examination, almost a warning to his own soul, is a defining trait of his songwriting. Time and again, he delivers visually and sonically compelling narratives that keep his audience enthralled, ensuring they remain on the edge of their seats.
Returning to the music, an incendiary synthesizer solo erupts, once again paying tribute to the past while injecting a fresh and exhilarating edge. Zarooni then unleashes a blistering, commanding vocal performance that escalates into an explosive crescendo. The sheer power and intensity of this climactic moment make it one of the song's most unforgettable highlights.
We won’t spoil the ending, but true to form, Zarooni throws in a final twist that cements the song’s message, delivering a conclusion as impactful as its beginning.
This is undeniably a must-see experience for both long-time fans and newcomers alike. For us, once again, Zarooni has crafted an unforgettable audiovisual masterpiece that demands to be seen, heard, and felt.
