Will Sims bursts onto the scene with his explosive EP Hello, a dynamic collection of indie rock anthems and powerful ballads that blend the spirit of classic rock with a fresh, modern edge.
The title track "Hello" is high-energy with an infectious melody that embeds itself right in your head from the first listen. The blend of timeless rock influences and fresh, contemporary styling is irresistible, and when you add Will Sims' captivating vocals, you’ve found yourself a new favorite artist.
One standout moment comes with the lyrics:
“I think there’s really been a change in you / I can see the same girl / but deep inside I think you’re something new.”
These lyrics perfectly suit Sims' powerful and soulful voice, which is both vibrant and slightly husky, adding a rich emotional depth. Honestly, we couldn’t get enough of his vocals. The intermittent drum fills add an extra layer of ear-catching detail, giving the song a unique feel and keeping it exciting from start to finish.
The electric guitars also add their own magic, with a rolling, bell-like sound that harks back to the days when guitars could speak. In this track, the guitar becomes a voice of its own, adding depth and feeling as it weaves through the music. Just past the halfway mark, we get an incredible interlude, as if we’re crouched close to the ground and then suddenly lifted, with Sims right at the edge of the stage, singing to a crowd primed to explode. As the energy surges to a huge crescendo, it's clear that Will Sims is cementing himself as a breakthrough artist on the rise.
Next up we checked out “Axiom” – a high-energy, guitar-driven track layered with powerful, resonant drums. Will Sims brings his impressive vocal talent once again, and the guitars stand out with a depth that’s hard to miss. Numerous guitar solos are woven throughout, adding layers that make the track feel rich and dynamic. The song’s piano interludes add an unexpected touch of sophistication, making it even more captivating.
Then we heard “If These Walls Could Talk,” a beautiful ballad with a Broadway-like introduction that draws you in immediately. The melody and rhythm are infectious, showcasing Sims' ability to deliver with emotion and finesse.
Finally, “Will You Remember” shows a different side of Sims with a unique vocal cadence and intonation. This shift brings a refreshing twist, reminiscent of classic 80s power ballads. It’s a standout track that could easily become a favorite on the radio.
Will Sims – About the Artist and Project:
Will Sims’ long-awaited EP is a testament to the artist’s journey through Baltimore's rich music scene, blending his love for '90s alternative rock with modern production. Nearly a decade in the making, this EP showcases Sims' commitment to his craft, featuring two brand-new songs, a cover of a Maryland-based band, and three reimagined versions of tracks from his earlier albums.
Each song on this EP is deeply influenced by the rock icons Sims grew up listening to, including Matchbox Twenty, Foo Fighters, and Oasis, with threads of Goo Goo Dolls, Gin Blossoms, and Coldplay woven throughout. The artist describes the release as having “started as an acoustic project," but over time, "we kept adding layers upon layers until they were fully produced tracks.” This commitment to layered production and rich soundscapes gives the EP a unique depth that showcases the timeless spirit of '90s rock with a fresh, contemporary energy.
The band is packed with talent from the Baltimore scene:
Joe Ruggiero on guitar and bass
Christopher Frick on keys and piano
Collin Athas and Vasco Ramos on backing vocals
Jack O’Connell on drums and as the recording, mixing, and production mastermind
The EP was recorded in various studios around Baltimore, with final mixing completed by O’Connell in Nashville, Tennessee. Sims reflects on the collaborative nature of the EP, saying, “I am truly honored and thankful for the legendary talent I have been able to include on this EP. These guys are among some of the most talented musicians in Baltimore, and deserve to be among any of the well-known artists making music today.”
The EP’s lead single, “Hello,” dives into the nerves of meeting someone for the first time, capturing the mix of excitement and anxiety that comes with it. Meanwhile, “Axiom” delivers a powerful message about resilience and the importance of not letting others hold you back. Both songs began years ago in previous projects but found their full expression only now, adding an element of endurance and evolution to the EP’s narrative.
Throughout his career, Sims has been a staple at major Baltimore festivals like Maryland Day Festival, Part Time Rockstar Festival, and Sonarfest. He’s opened for iconic bands such as Puddle of Mudd, Smile Empty Soul, and Faster Pussycat, and his work has been featured on local radio stations including 98 Rock and HFS. This year, Sims is taking his music on the road with an East Coast tour, his first time touring the region, which he describes as a journey filled with “amazing new places” and opportunities to connect with fans along the way.

He uses its loftiness to drive the soundscape as they push at limits and harness the depth of his experience. Listen Now!”
