Kacey Fifield releases "Self Sabotage" and it actually may save her, and you... if you pay attention!
With a poppy and quirky start you may mistake this song for a simple one-liner chorus or light-meaning song. Without much time wasted, the song then grows and builds in anxiousness. Kacey Fifield uses the drop in the musical arrangement to sort of chastise the object of this song. With a quick and quipped style of singing that does a da da da da da tempo, that I really enjoyed, it felt like maybe someone had gone wrong or crossed our singer emotionally and the words were flying pointedly like arrows. But the lyrics actually tell a story from both sides, literally.
We usually all only see the world from right or wrong, and rarely are we on the side of wrong (how can we be wrong when YOU are wrong lol). Life has taught us so many lessons and this song delivers the message home that we can, and are wrong at least some of the time, hence creating "Self Sabotage" and until we accept that - well then we are almost always wrong! What a dense and emotional bag to unpack. Written from the eyes and experiences of an 18 year old it actually makes me think, do I consider others enough when I am finding fault in them?
I admire any songwriter that forces me to think. I see a huge amount of talent here and there will no doubt be more reflections of life and experiences from Kacey Fifield in the form of songs in the future.
