The Prickly Pair released “It Takes Two to Cry,” which is a future Country hit in the making and might teach you a thing or two about a thing or two!

Country as hell is this track! If you don’t have a pickup truck, a dog, and a broken heart, you will likely get all three by the end of listening to this relatable and beautiful performance. Seriously though, this is an exceptional performance and has its boots deep in the Honky Tonk music genre. This new country track is all about that prickly pair - the kind where it takes two to tango (or, in this case, cry). With a shuffling honky-tonk beat courtesy of the one and only Ken Coomer, founding drummer of Wilco, this is one cheatin' song you won't get out of your head. It has a super catchy hook with tremendous guitars, too. Additional exceptional true standouts are the lyrics and the vocals. We think this duo’s voices are perfect in both the country genre and are compatible with one another. There are several parts of this song, and the delivery is similar but gives a slightly different mood as the song progresses, and it sells the meaning of this song. Starting with the order of appearance in the song Mason Summit (on vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards), we must say this is an excellent delivery, sells the guilt to the listener, and has a unique and genuine sound. This is really important to us, especially when singing country music. Irene Greene, also on vocals, is equally impressive and hits those notes with such power and tenacity that we adored absolutely with this duo. We loved the drops to highs that pulled us in and had us fixated on this song. Now combine all this with Mason's contributions on the mandolin and banjo and the twangy lead guitar, organ, and piano. You have a super standout hit!

Lyrically, “It takes two to cry” is the most refreshing take on the adage; it takes two to tango, making this song a future classic. This twist and message is the cutest sad story of one of the oldest relationship issues. It was a fantastic performance from both of these very talented artists. The lyrics tell the story of a relationship gone sour, where both parties are equally to blame for the downfall.

So crank up the volume, pour yourself a cold one, and get ready to feel all the feels with this new country throwback. It may be about heartbreak, but dang, if it doesn't make you want to two-step across the dance floor. The Prickly Pair and “It Takes Two to Cry” is one you don't want to sleep on.

The Prickly Pair:

“We recorded this song in Nashville. Founding Wilco drummer Ken Coomer played drums & percussion at his studio, then we finished it up at home. Oliver Roman mixed it & it was mastered by Bobbi Giel at Welcome to 1979 in Nashville. Cover photo & graphic design by Spencer Shapeero.”
