A favorite band of ours, The Pulltops, just released their latest track, "Carry On," and as always, we were incredibly impressed.
Eager to experience their highly anticipated release, we headed straight to their official YouTube Music channel to watch the lyric video visualizer. What immediately struck us was the duo’s completely revamped imagery and sound, an exciting and innovative evolution of their style.
The accompanying visualizer is electrifying, featuring a futuristic backdrop filled with humanoid yet distinctly electronic characters. The bright, backlit display creates an immersive and exhilarating experience for the listener. From the very first beats, the song introduces an engaging musical arrangement that takes a bold step into the realm of synth-driven indie rock. We were both surprised and completely captivated by this transformation. The Pulltops have redefined their sound with a powerful, orchestral, and explosive energy that feels effortlessly executed. The thunderous bass and pulsating beats, paired with gentle reverb techniques, evoke an almost cosmic sensation.
As the song begins with the hauntingly poignant lyrics:
"The pain in me / The pain in me is real / I feel it all the time,"
-the emotional weight is immediately palpable. The delivery is raw and deeply moving, leaving a lasting impression on the listener. The chorus erupts with an auditory and visual explosion that is nothing short of breathtaking. The vocal performance is absolutely stellar, soaring with intensity and emotion. The sheer force behind the vocals builds into a massive crescendo, radiating exasperation and passion.
The lyrical depth of "Carry On" is strikingly profound. This is far from a lighthearted message, there are themes of heartbreak and tragedy woven throughout, and the listener can genuinely feel the weight of these emotions. The lyrics, however, also carry an inspiring message of perseverance. The Pulltops remind us that, despite adversity, we can all move forward and find better days.
The vocal clarity throughout the song is remarkable, allowing listeners to fully absorb and connect with the message. The embellishments and signature vocal techniques create an unforgettable, timeless performance. As the song progresses, we are immersed in a piano synth solo that is nothing short of mesmerizing, perfectly complemented by the visualizer’s stunning effects. The production techniques on the vocals subtly subdue them in the mix, creating a mechanized effect that aligns seamlessly with the futuristic and electronic themes of the track.
Toward the end, the song shifts slightly, introducing a more organic blend of guitar and live drum beats. The lyrics:
"Life is more than fantasy,"
-reinforce the overarching theme, finding fulfillment in the tangible and appreciating the present moment rather than chasing unattainable dreams. The closing line:
"Paint the world in your design,"
-is an inspiring call to action, encouraging listeners to shape their own realities.
"Carry On" is an uplifting, emotional, and motivational anthem wrapped in an extraordinary vocal and musical performance. It feels as though it belongs on the soundtrack of an epic film, delivering a message of hope and resilience that resonates deeply.
With this release, The Pulltops have elevated their artistry to new heights. Their fusion of alternative rock, synth textures, and driving guitars strikes a perfect balance between raw emotion and uplifting energy. Rich harmonies and a propulsive rhythm further solidify this track as one of their most impressive works to date.
The Pulltops are a Milwaukee-based indie rock duo consisting of drummer Mark Pierret and guitarist Tom Crowell. Their unique sound continues to evolve, pushing boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in heartfelt storytelling and masterful musicianship.
