We had the pleasure of listening to THE POST’s latest release, “Yellowstone,” and it was truly an unforgettable experience.
Upon hearing about this release, we immediately headed to the official YouTube Music channel to immerse ourselves in the highly anticipated music video.
The opening visuals of a car gliding across an open desert at sunset create a breathtaking backdrop for the song’s introduction. As visuals of people through the vast, golden landscape, we are greeted by the soul-stirring vocals of Esther Bertram. Her delivery is absolutely mesmerizing, imbued with a striking balance of technical precision and emotional depth. The luminous quality of her voice sits beautifully atop the gently strummed guitars, which weave together seamlessly, much like a slow-moving river. This perfectly complements both the deliberate pacing of the video’s cinematography and the heartfelt nature of the song’s lyrics.
When we heard:
“Red dust you’ll be gone with no anger on my back / You’ve always wondered if this road
was winding back / but I see sunrise / at the Yellowstone / at the Yellowstone tonight,”
-we were instantly captivated by the sincerity and resonance of her delivery.
The underlying guitar arrangement, though subtle, is impossible to ignore. It adorns the sonic landscape in a way that begins to feel hypnotic. This instrumental bedrock aligns seamlessly with Esther Bertram’s vocals, creating a deeply cohesive and immersive atmosphere.
As the video unfolds, images of cowboys on horseback traversing the landscape, further amplify the song’s connection to themes of freedom, introspection, and renewal. The choice of these scenic backdrops is stunning, enhancing the song’s message with striking visual storytelling. As the song progresses, Esther Bertram’s vocal intensity builds, punctuated by brief yet poignant pauses that leave an indelible mark. This vocal phrasing elevates the performance from impressive to truly magical.
Then, an unexpected shift occurs. The music begins to swell, and the screen introduces Alasdair Henry. The mood instantly transforms, accompanied by a thunderous, pulsating beat reminiscent of a heartbeat. The cello’s entrance brings a new dimension of depth and power. As its sound expands within the audio landscape, the visuals follow suit, becoming more dynamic and exhilarating. The decision to keep Esther Bertram prominently featured throughout the video was a brilliant one, her presence remains magnetic, drawing us further into the experience. With each scattered vocal embellishment, whether through delicate falsettos or elongated, breathy notes, we find ourselves completely entranced. It’s impossible not to sing along in our heads:
“At the Yellowstone / At the Yellowstone tonight.”
The well-placed pauses only enhance the impact, making the chorus feel even more evocative.
When the cello solo emerges, it is nothing short of breathtaking. The performance unfolds with a slow, deliberate grace, each note meticulously placed to build a rich atmosphere of tension and depth. Long, sweeping bow slides stretch across the strings, evoking an eerie yet cinematic resonance that lingers in the air. These fluid, legato passages are contrasted by sharp, precise staccato notes, creating a striking interplay, like whispered confessions between deep, longing sighs. The shifting dynamic between melancholic swells and crisp articulations lends the performance a haunting yet controlled intensity, drawing the listener into an emotional reverie.
As the video reaches its climax, the imagery becomes more rapid and immersive. The visual interplay between Esther Bertram and Alasdair Henry cements this as a truly mesmerizing performance, culminating in a breathtaking finale.
This release is a masterful fusion of visuals and music, combining stunning cinematography, a deeply evocative instrumental arrangement, and Esther Bertram’s stellar vocals to craft an audiovisual experience that will undoubtedly resonate with listeners and viewers alike.
