An explosive, genre-bending breakthrough—brimming with authenticity, power, and next-era star quality.

Rhys Hurd came across our radar with the release of “do you miss me.” and we were immediately drawn in by its invigorating energy and infectious message. The track brims with a kind of raw motivation that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable—a perfect combination for a song aiming to inspire.

The track kicks off with a heavily down-tuned electric guitar that bursts in with a commanding presence. This is paired with a clever use of ghost beat production techniques, creating a sense of movement that feels alive from the very first note. It’s an exhilarating and distinctive opening—one that instantly sets a tone of urgency and emotional weight.

Following a short instrumental interlude, Hurd seizes the moment to deliver a striking vocal entrance.

When the lyrics hit:

“they say that once you’ve missed your shot / you won’t get another again”

—it lands like a challenge thrown at the listener, echoing the voice of every skeptic and doubter. It’s a brilliant lyrical choice because it immediately establishes conflict and vulnerability while flipping it into strength. There’s a subtle but powerful emotional alchemy here: Hurd takes a universal sense of failure and rejection and transforms it into a rallying cry. It’s this uplifting narrative woven into the lyrics that makes the track not just a song, but a message of resilience.

We loved Hurd’s vocal performance; it is commanding, marked by a rich tonal depth and a distinctive phrasing style. His deliberate dragging of syllables and careful control over cadence create a signature vocal identity—one that feels unmistakably his. There’s a rock ‘n’ roll spirit at the core of his delivery, but it’s elevated by an emotional intelligence that avoids the overly dramatic and instead lands on something genuinely moving.

The instrumentation is equally impressive. The rhythmic bass guitar lays down a solid, funk-infused foundation that feels both expansive and grounded. Layered on top, the electric guitar doesn’t just accompany—it converses, creating a call-and-response tension that injects excitement and forward momentum. It’s this interplay that keeps the arrangement feeling alive and spontaneous, as if the instruments themselves are reacting to the emotional arc of the song.

What also stood out was Hurd’s ability to deliver moments of contrast within the same track. One moment, he’s laying down lyrics with a calm, almost whispered defiance—telling you to “cut the bullshit”—and the next, his voice soars into open air, brimming with catharsis.

These shifts are executed with seamless precision, offering bursts of “ear candy” that surprise and elevate the listening experience.

And what follows is one of the most satisfying payoffs: a climactic, bass-heavy funk solo that erupts with energy. This section is a masterclass in tension and release, and Hurd leans all the way in, unleashing a performance that’s both technical and emotionally charged. The closing drum fills are absolutely worth the wait—tight, expressive, and bursting with life.

In “do you miss me.” Rhys Hurd channels the feeling of reclaiming your momentum after years of setbacks and uses it to craft an anthem of revival. It’s a statement not just about personal triumph, but about enduring and emerging sharper, louder, and more self-assured.

Delivered with a striking glam-rock confidence and an undercurrent of soul, this track doesn’t just ask if you’ve missed him—it makes sure you won’t forget him.

Rhys Hurd’s “do you miss me.” is a fearless, genre-blending triumph that announces a bold new voice in music.

Rhys Hurd, hailing from the coastal town of Falmouth, England, has spent nearly a decade refining his sound through a journey of songwriting, producing, and personal reinvention.

After stepping back from solo releases over the past two years, he used the time to explore his creative voice and discover the message he wanted to deliver through his music. What’s emerged is a bold fusion of nostalgic 1980s stadium rock energy and the polished, colorful textures of 2020s pop, drawing from genres like disco, synthwave, indie pop, and K-pop.

Hurd describes his refreshed sound as “if Bon Jovi spent too much time listening to Sabrina Carpenter,” a mix that feels both unexpected and captivating.

“do you miss me.” is the product of six years of missteps, lessons, and rebuilding—a song shaped by struggles with confidence and the fear of missing your one shot, only to realize the path forward is always open. In his own words, “This song was written about the journey I’ve taken to find the sound and voice I have now as a musician—I want this to be a message to everyone to keep going in life, no matter how many times you’re told no.”

Rhys Hurd plans to release more new music later this year and we can't wait to hear it!
