We had the opportunity to experience Myah’s latest release, the EP “IS THIS WHAT I SEE?” and we have to say, it’s a masterfully crafted body of work that solidifies her ability to create something truly remarkable. While certain tracks immediately stood out, this is an EP that demands to be heard in full for the complete immersive experience.

The first track we encountered was “with you.” From the very first notes, the song constructs a lush and captivating sonic landscape. The atmosphere is both inviting and mysterious, pulling the listener into its depths with a hypnotic allure.

“Cosmic lullabies / comets / they know how to fly”

The cadence, tinged with a subtle melancholy, was enthralling, making for a striking opening. Myah’s vocal performance here is exceptional, her voice drapes effortlessly over the instrumentation with smooth, elongated notes that give the song an ethereal quality.

The synth-driven arrangement is intoxicating, demonstrating meticulous production choices that leave a lasting impression. The beats are mellow yet intricate, carrying a controlled unpredictability that keeps the listener engaged. The production design is particularly impressive, using dynamic pauses and surges to create a push-and-pull effect that enhances the vocals. As the track unfolds, a spacey, ascending synth sound emerges, perfectly launching the chorus into an even more impressive display of vocal prowess.

Myah’s signature tone and technique on “with you” establish her as a standout artist destined for major recognition. The layered production, combining dripping ethereal textures with deep, pulsing bass, adds another fascinating dimension. What’s truly intriguing is the underlying R&B groove that seamlessly blends into the song’s synthpop framework, creating an unexpected but incredibly satisfying fusion.

Next up was “I’ll be your light,” a track that immediately made an impact. Being in Southern California, we momentarily thought we were experiencing an earthquake, but it was, in fact, a brilliant bass drop that felt like it was created through a water egg production technique. This bold, deep bass momentarily halts all thought, acting as a sonic reset before the song’s full weight settles in and we absolutely loved it. Gone was the wistful melancholy of the previous track. Instead, a sense of frustration and regret took its place, brought to life by evocative lyrics:

“Hate that the movers came / hate that they painted the place / hate that they emptied all our shared things”

The heartbreak narrative unfolds seamlessly, with driving percussion pushing the track forward. The sharp, rhythmic intensity highlights Myah’s vocal delivery, making it even more compelling. The layered vocal production is mesmerizing, creating a swirling, intoxicating effect that mirrors the emotional turmoil she conveys. Her repetition of sugared yet aching vocal phrases is executed to perfection, drawing the listener deeper into the song’s atmosphere. As the track concludes, the lingering reverb and unresolved chord progression leave an undeniable sense of unfinished closure, a powerful reflection of lingering heartache.

Finally, we arrived at “say it,” a stunning ballad that masterfully balances space, silence, and emotional tension. Myah’s deliberate phrasing and the dramatic pauses between lines make each lyric feel weighty and profound.

“I’ve seen the way the show unfolds / are you gonna prove me wrong?”

And then as the song progresses we hear, “Won’t you say it” and it encapsulates the universal frustration of unspoken words in relationships. Why do connections disintegrate into ambiguity? Why do partners construct an image of themselves that ultimately doesn’t align with reality? And when confronted, why do they refuse to acknowledge it?

The song delivers an emotional punch, proving that Myah possesses not only an extraordinary vocal ability but also a profound lyrical talent capable of crafting songs that resonate deeply.

Myah isn’t just an artist, she’s a storyteller, a curator of emotion, and a master of sonic nostalgia. Bursting onto the scene through an unexpected viral TikTok moment, she quickly proved that she’s more than just a name in someone else’s story. Her music pays homage to the golden era of 2010s synthpop while weaving in elements of alternative rock, crafting soundscapes that are both deeply personal and universally relatable. With a keen eye for cinematic storytelling, she constructs her songs like scenes from a film, evoking powerful imagery and raw emotion. Themes of love, existential questioning, and longing ripple through her work, making her discography feel like an intimate diary set to an electrifying soundtrack. And with the debut album i don’t know what i’m feeling on the horizon, Myah is solidifying herself as an artist with a distinct vision, one that’s impossible to ignore.

One last detail we loved, there’s a beautifully designed lyric book available when you purchase the EP on Bandcamp. It’s a fantastic way to further experience this talented artist and delve deeper into the meaning behind her music.
