Begin Interview:

Hello Samantha Mora, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more excited to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.

Q. "Luto" is an absolutely exhilarating song. The way you blended an upbeat, danceable R&B feel with powerful drums and bilingual vocals is truly captivating. Your vocal control and emotional delivery take this track to another level, and we can already see it making an impact globally. Grief is often seen as something to move past, yet "Luto" embraces it as a natural and ongoing part of life. How did this song evolve from its initial idea to its final form, and what inspired you to approach such a deeply emotional topic in such a celebratory way?

A. When I was working in the studio with Chris, my musical influences were very clear—I wanted to blend Latin elements with something a bit unconventional and experimental. But more than anything, the driving force behind Luto was my need to express the emotions that come with making mistakes. At the time, I was reflecting not just on my own missteps but also on those of my mother and grandmother—how our mistakes shape us, how they bring grief in their own way.

Grief is often seen as something to overcome, but I wanted to acknowledge it as a natural part of life—painful yet beautiful. That’s why the song had to be upbeat. It’s about embracing the sorrow, dancing with it, and finding joy in the acceptance of our imperfections.

Q. Do you see this song as a natural progression of your musical journey, or were there specific personal or musical experiences that influenced this direction?

A. I want to connect with my audience like a friend—someone who shares her perspective on life, opens up about her struggles, and reflects on how she navigates them. I've always felt that I have something meaningful to say, and more importantly, that we all go through similar experiences. That’s why my songs feel easy to connect with. My intention is to find beauty in every step of the journey and to remind people that life is about seeing the bigger picture—the good, the painful, and everything in between.

Q. With these deeply personal and raw emotions being at the forefront and foundation of the song, how do you feel after performing it, whether in the studio or live? Would you describe the experience as cathartic, draining, or something else entirely? And how do you prepare yourself for the emotional impact of delivering such a heartfelt performance?

A. When I recorded Luto, I was in a state of deep numbness—I couldn’t feel much beyond the effort of trying to feel. It’s hard to explain, but in a way, I was pushing emotions out through the lyrics, even if I wasn’t fully processing them at the time.

Then, two years later, when I sang it live for the first time, my grandmother had just passed. I couldn’t hold back the tears. In that moment, the song transformed—it was no longer just mine; it became hers. It was a powerful reminder of how music and emotions are constantly evolving.

Now, every time I perform it, I see it as something to share, to pass on. I love watching how people react to it, how they connect with their own experiences through the song. It’s no longer just about me—it belongs to everyone who listens.

Q. Your photos are absolutely beautiful! Can you describe the theme for your release artwork and what the inspiration and intention were for the observer to absorb from it?

A.Thank you! This was truly a team effort, and I feel so lucky to have Izzy as a friend. She approached me with the idea of giving Samantha Mora a distinct face and style—something that visually represents not just my sound, but also the message I want to share. With Nick’s incredible photography, we created a collection of images that I’ve been slowly releasing on social media.

For this particular shoot, we drew inspiration from the Adelitas—the brave women who fought during the Mexican Revolution. They were my grandmother’s all-time favorites, and incorporating their essence into this imagery felt like the perfect way to honor both her and my heritage. It’s a modern reinterpretation of their strength and spirit, adding a bold, fiery touch to the visual storytelling of this song.

Q. How do you feel you have grown as your music career gains traction? If you could go back and give the version of yourself who made your last release a piece of advice, what would it be?

A.Give yourself time, and give your music time. When I released Howl, I was terrified to take the leap, and Luto was no different. The music industry can be unpredictable—either shining a spotlight on you or leaving you in the dark. You meet friendly faces and not-so-friendly ones, and it’s hard to tell who’s who. That uncertainty can make you question whether it’s worth pushing forward.

But at the end of the day, singing makes me happy. Being on stage gives me the most incredible feeling. So I decided—forget the industry. Whether 10 or 10,000 people are listening, I want to keep making music, and that’s what truly matters.

Q. Can you walk us through your songwriting process? Which instrument typically serves as the foundation for your songs, and how does it influence the overall mood and direction of the final sound?

A.My voice is my primary instrument, and in my head, I hear everything else. I play a bit of piano and ukulele, but nothing guides a song in the right direction quite like my own voice. The real magic happens with the help of my friends—musicians who are always willing to dive into my vision and bring the ultimate sound to life.

That’s also why every performance is unique. I rely on my musicians to interpret the essence of the song, allowing them to play with the foundation and add their own touch. It keeps the music authentic, alive, and constantly evolving.

Q. The song is bilingual, blending English and Spanish. How does incorporating both languages into your music help you connect with your heritage and audience?

A.For me, language is instinctive—some things just make sense in English, while others can only be expressed in Spanish. I grew up immersed in both languages, so blending them in my music feels natural. It’s how I think, how I feel, and how I’ve always navigated the world.

When I was growing up in Mexico, my internal conversations and even my dreams were in English. Now that I live in Canada, I sometimes catch myself thinking in Spanish. It’s almost like whichever language I’m not surrounded by becomes my secret one—it’s funny how the mind works. That fluidity is a huge part of who I am, and it naturally finds its way into my music.

Q. You took a break from music for several years before returning. What was that period like for you, and how did it shape your artistic evolution?

A.Silence made me realize how much I needed to speak. Taking a step back allowed me to truly feel the FOMO—not performing, not recording, not creating music. It was a strange but important feeling to sit with.

As a visual artist, I spent most of that time painting, which was liberating in its own way—but not quite enough. Music has always been a part of me, and that break made it clear that I couldn’t stay away forever. Taking time off is okay, especially when it reveals just how much something truly matters to you.

Q. We feel like we have learned so much about you from this one song, and that’s such a great way to connect with fans. But what’s one surprising fact about you that fans might not know?

A. This might not come as a surprise, but I’m deeply involved in animal rights activism. I work closely with teams in Mexico, advocating for farm animals and pushing for change. Beyond music, this is a cause that means everything to me. I truly believe we have to make time for what matters—and right now, nature is calling us to step up and help.

Q. Samantha Mora, we can't thank you enough for sharing these intimate details! So, what's next? Can you give us the inside scoop on your upcoming projects and what fans should be excited about? We'd love to be the first to share the news!

A. More music, for sure! I have a whole list of songs waiting to be unveiled, and I can’t wait to share them. Plus, there are some exciting shows coming up—but for all the details, you’ll have to follow me on social media. Stay tuned!
