Diving right into Ludwig Jonsson’s latest release, “No Angel Is Watching,” we found it to be nothing short of electrifying.

From the very first beat, the track is high-energy and relentlessly fast-paced. The tight, driving drums immediately command attention, setting a forceful foundation for what’s to come. The blazing guitars are undeniably rock ‘n’ roll, yet they carry a heavier metal influence, launching into an almost immediate solo that shreds through the mix. A drop-beat effect introduces Jonsson’s vocals in a striking burst, making for an unforgettable first impression.

Hearing his voice for the first time is an overwhelming experience in the best way possible. His spellbinding presence exudes raw intensity, a unique blend of grit, charisma, and commanding star power. The vocals are unrestrained, fierce, and emotionally charged, hitting with an almost primal force. The decision to strip the track down to just drums when Jonsson first appears is a stroke of genius, it gives new listeners a chance to fully absorb his vocal prowess while rewarding longtime fans with an intimate yet powerful moment.

With a commanding and fearless delivery, Jonsson empowers the listener, and this energy is perfectly captured in standout lyrics like:

“Nothing can stop you / Even if the world’s against you.”

This is an exhilarating moment, a true triumph for the artist. The lyrical performance is phenomenal, but it’s not just the words that make the track exceptional, the song’s structure is masterful. The interplay between stop-start rhythms, intricate weaving of vocals and instrumentation, and flawless execution of dynamic shifts create a listening experience that’s absolutely next level.

By employing the less-is-more approach, the track allows both instrumentation and vocals to shine independently, making for a jaw-dropping performance. As the song transitions into a lightning-fast guitar solo, we’re reminded of the sheer power of classic heavy metal, comparable to Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast. That album remains in our top five heavy metal records, and this track genuinely holds its own in that echelon. The beats pierce through the mix like a sonic assault, while the guitars tear through the air with an intensity that could strip the paint off a body.

Another standout element is the bass, which is far from being buried in the mix. Instead, it takes center stage during key interludes, providing a strong rhythmic foundation that holds everything together beautifully. And believe it or not, we’re not even halfway through the track before feeling completely enthralled. Without spoiling every twist and turn, we can confidently say there are even more showstopping moments, both in terms of creative delivery and stellar production.

This track is an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride, making you feel like you’re ready to rise up and take on the world. When the chorus hits:

“No angel is watching”

-it’s a moment of pure catharsis. The energy and defiance in Jonsson’s voice are contagious, inspiring a sense of strength and resilience. You can’t help but feel ready to conquer any obstacle in your path. The lyrics throughout are nothing short of fantastic, and if we kept quoting them, we’d be reciting the entire song.

Just when you think the solos are done, they keep coming. The drums blaze on, and the entire production culminates in a grand, almost orchestral-style finale, staying true to the essence of heavy metal. This track deserves every bit of praise. It’s an outstanding piece of work, and you need to check it out.

Ludwig Jonsson hails from southern Sweden, and impressively, this track was entirely self-produced and recorded in his home studio. He played every instrument and handled production independently, achieving a unique balance of a “dirty yet polished” sound. The title, “No Angel Is Watching”, reflects overcoming adversity, even when facing challenges alone. Jonsson has a long-standing presence in the music scene, currently active as a guitarist in My Dear Addiction, yet he’s exploring bold new territory with this solo endeavor.

This release proves one thing: Ludwig Jonsson isn’t just stepping into the spotlight, he’s commanding it.
