“Last Dance” by SMIDVIK Delivers a Mind-Blowing Fusion of Freestyle, Synth Solos, and Vocal Mastery
Coming out of one of the powerhouses of music cities, Stockholm, Sweden, SMIDVIK slaps hard right from the opening notes of "Last Dance." There’s so much going on in those first few seconds, it’s almost overwhelming in the best way possible. The 90s freestyle fusion hits you like a wave of nostalgia, but it’s fused with such a modern twist that it’s undeniable, this track is a nuclear banger. SMIDVIK doesn’t waste time getting into the groove, and it’s clear they know how to keep a listener hooked.
Let’s dive into the vocals for a second. The vocal cadence and intonation SMIDVIK brings to "Last Dance" is something we’re huge fans of. Just about a quarter of the way into the song, SMIDVIK does something that caught us off guard, in the best way. SMIDVIK strips down almost all the music and lays down a stunning vocal performance, giving us only a moment to catch our breath before throwing us right back into the thick of the freestyle-driven beats. Side note, we went to SMIDVIK’s IG page and heard this artist’s cover of 'Champagne Supernova,' and it’s a showstopper; the talent is undeniable.
But it doesn’t stop there. About halfway through the track, SMIDVIK hits us with a synth solo that feels like the electronic version of an old-school rock guitar solo. It’s got the same intensity and creativity and just further solidifies this song as something special. It’s rare for a track to take us somewhere new, but "Last Dance" absolutely delivers. The team behind this track made some genius decisions, and it shows from start to finish.
What really sets this track apart is how true it stays to its nightclub roots. From start to finish, it’s clear SMIDVIK is all about keeping the party vibe alive while pushing boundaries with their sound. This is the kind of track that you’ll want to play on repeat, whether you're on the dance floor or just vibing out.
Engineering-wise, it keeps the 90s vibe alive with that deep, booming bass, maintaining the danceability while making sure it shakes the walls. There is also that being played on a Technics SL-1200MK7 with a stylus audible feel that nothing else in the world can provide, and this was the real slam dunk for us, this track checks every box!
SMIDVIK’s "Last Dance" is a true testament to the blend of retro 90s freestyle and modern electronic brilliance. The track kicks off with an explosive energy that grabs you from the first second, delivering a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new. The fusion of styles creates an overwhelming sense of excitement, as SMIDVIK expertly weaves in intricate vocal cadences and drops a stunning switch-up in the first quarter of the song, stripping down the music to showcase their incredible vocal prowess. This mix of high-energy freestyle and intimate vocal moments makes the song a standout. Halfway through, SMIDVIK takes it to the next level with an electrifying synth solo, channeling the essence of old-school rock guitar solos, but in a totally fresh and unique way. The creativity on display is top-tier and cements this track as one of the most exciting releases we’ve come across. What really makes "Last Dance" shine is its commitment to keeping that true nightclub energy, blending both retro and contemporary sounds effortlessly.
