Junior Varsity’s "New York" Captures the Fear and Thrill of Falling in Love

Falling in love is already a lot, but doing it in New York? Whole other level of chaos. LA-based trio Junior Varsity—Greg Aram, Zach Michel, and Brooke Danaher—are fully leaning into the wild energy of NYC in their latest track, "New York." This one’s different though. It’s not just about the rush of the city, but more about love getting messy in all the noise, capturing two people caught between wanting each other and being terrified of it.

"New York" vibes off this unspoken connection, where they’re not even saying much to each other, but you can feel the tension. It’s like those moments when no one’s talking but you know exactly what's going on. The song brings that, layering in garage rock beats, tight rhythms, and guitars that totally swirl with that mix of excitement and low-key fear. The line, "You say you don't want it," really hits, pulling out that classic fear of being vulnerable and asking if it’s worth it to let someone all the way in. It's the realest take on love that’s both intense and totally fragile.

The video, directed by Dillon Cohen, is next-level too. It kicks off with kids running wild in a neon-lit casino, playing Beyblades of all things. Then, it spins into this trippy visual of the band and others literally stuck to the walls inside a Beyblade top, moving at insane speed. Life’s a chaotic ride, but even when it throws you around, it’s kinda beautiful too. Messy, yeah, but definitely worth it.

Junior Varsity's been making waves in the indie scene with their crazy high-energy underground shows and DIY style, building a loyal fanbase along the way. "New York" is a clear sign of how they're growing, with their raw sound evolving into more personal storytelling. After opening for artists like Jean Dawson and LANY, it’s pretty clear that Junior Varsity’s here to stay.

If you’re ready to get swept up in the whirlwind of love, chaos, and raw emotion, stream "New York" by Junior Varsity now, and catch them on tour!
