Julia Kate just dropped her single "Beverly Hills", and we couldn’t wait to dive into the music video, an adorable, heartfelt ode to love that feels as intimate as it is cinematic.
The video opens with a beautiful view over Los Angeles, setting the scene perfectly. Julia’s soft, captivating vocals come in with the lyrics:
“You meet me outside and lift me from the backseat / You’re a small town that you know very well / I’m the big city, and you can tell.”
Right away, we’re immersed in this story between two people who see the world through each other's eyes. As the song unfolds, it becomes clear just how important this love is to Julia, as she builds a connection that reaches right through the screen. With a voice full of warmth and sincerity, Julia sings about how her love makes her feel:
“You make me not want to go back to Beverly Hills.”
It’s a beautiful reminder that love can outweigh all the glitz and glamor, that happiness often finds us in the simplest places.
Julia’s vocals shine here, sweet, airy, and crystal clear. The arrangement is soft yet expressive, with a gentle beat that perfectly supports her delicate yet commanding voice. We loved the contrast in visuals, moving from scenic country roads to the iconic buzz of Rodeo Drive in LA, matching the song’s sentiment about choosing love over luxury. As the song picks up pace, Julia’s energy fills the screen, giving us a viewing and listening experience that leaves a lasting impression. Her falsetto at the end is the cherry on top, showcasing a vocal range that’s both impressive and filled with emotion.
Julia Kate’s journey as a musician started early, sparked by a love of music that’s been nurtured since she was in second grade. A singer-songwriter with a background in musical theater, Julia has already had some remarkable moments on stage—including a memorable school performance where she sang a gospel solo in front of Lady Gaga herself. This experience left Julia with the unique distinction of being able to say that, while she’s seen Lady Gaga perform, Lady Gaga has also watched her.
Her music draws inspiration from artists like Billie Eilish, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo. As one of Billie Eilish’s early followers, Julia has followed her journey from small venues to sold-out arenas, and this influence is reflected in her own music, which speaks to the experiences of young women. Through her songs, Julia aims to empower others, encouraging them to embrace their individuality and inner strength.
Now studying songwriting and music business at Berklee College of Music, Julia’s path took a professional turn in high school when she began writing her own songs. A family friend introduced her to producer Johnny What (known for working with JuiceWRLD and Pentatonix), who, along with musical director Nick Rosen and Jacob Wick (formerly of Dreamers), helped shape Julia’s debut EP, just a kid, released in 2022. Before starting at Berklee in 2023, she recorded a second EP, yearbook, with Rosen, which came out in September 2023.
When she’s home in Los Angeles, Julia performs regularly at iconic venues like The Hotel Café and The Mint. With new music on the way in late 2024 and early 2025, Julia is steadily building a catalog that’s available on all streaming platforms, as well as on YouTube.
