Just like a horror film scares and a romance movie breaks one’s heart, this song delivers emotion. Beautifully sung with a pointed perfection that mesmerizes and calms you while still creating a sense of fear that this song's message may be being leading me into a space where I will no longer be in control. It has a sense of something is amiss, and when I read the lyrics I realized I was right.
The track is delivered in a hallowed silence that the song displays …and then proceeds to fill itself with eccentric and unique synths.
The lyrics have just won this song a place in my TSMMD playlist because it’s a dagger of a message. (Spoiler alert) Of course, this is my interpretation, but this song made me feel as if the past is sometimes only as good as we remember it. Our memories will be destroyed if we go back in time and see the reality of our experiences vs reality. Then the lines that got me were; “But the moon has seen everything” and “The sun reveals my lies clearly” made me smile and want to scream all at the same time. I feel this song saying we live in a lie in the darkness of our emotions (moonlight) by hiding the truth from ourselves and the sun shining is the harsh reality of truth!!!! I had so much emotion beaming from me that my partner asked me “why are you smiling”.
I was smiling because each day I fear that music will cease to amaze me and that I will no longer hear the sounds that I live for and I am too lacking in the ability to create.
But then the world of indie musicians appears before me and proves that they will always forge a new method of exhilarating the ears of us, the lucky listeners.
This Song Made My Day!
James the Seventh “The Moon”
LYRICS
Crying on the moon
Waiting for a star a sign to show me
Was the past as good as it seems?
I'm crying on the moon
I wanna go back in time just to see
Cause I love how the past holds me
So I'll just spend my night times reminiscing
When it's far too late to be coherent
I clung to memories of the past
Hoping I could make them all last
Nostalgia holds me nightly
But the moon has seen everything
Until I can get a time machine
The past will only look as good as it seems
But the moon has seen everything
Your beauty in my mind
Seems to arise and disappoint me
But how do I stop longing?
So I made a friend with time
But all they seem to do is leave so quickly
The sun reveals my lies clearly
So I'll just spend my night times reminiscing
When it's far too late to be coherent
I clung to memories of the past
Hoping I could make them all last
Nostalgia holds me nightly
But the moon has seen everything
Until I can get a time machine
The past will only look as good as it seems
But the moon has seen everything
Wanna bottle up the nostalgia and throw it in the tide
Let the ocean swallow it up as I drift down from the sky
