We discovered the immensely talented Inez Leon and her latest release, "Tan Lejos". From the first note, it captivates the senses, creating an immersive and emotionally charged atmosphere. We loved it and we were blown away.

The warmth and resonance of the song's opening electric guitar are striking, it nearly mimics an acoustic guitar that has been electrified, which may sound paradoxical but instead feels like an evolution of both worlds. The subdued yet crisp percussion sits just ahead of the beat, subtly pulling the listener forward, engaging the mind on a subconscious level. We are only seconds into the track, and it already leaves an impression.

Then comes the entrance of Inez Leon’s vocals, introduced with a delicate cymbal crash, as if a curtain has been drawn to reveal her presence. Her voice is enthralling, commanding the entire arrangement with effortless control. The depth of her falsetto is particularly remarkable, it begins with a rich, lower tone before seamlessly transitioning into an ethereal, higher register, all within a single breath. This technique creates a listening experience that is both soothing and breathtaking, conjuring an almost divine allure.

The decision to perform in Spanish was masterful. Not only is the language inherently beautiful and expressive, but Leon’s tone and delivery align so harmoniously with it that they feel inseparable. Her artistic vision is fully realized in this choice, elevating the song’s impact and emotional depth. Her breathy delivery holds the listener captive, immersing them in the rhythmic and emotional intricacies of her declarations. The layered harmonies and continuous, almost hypnotic guitar lines evoke chills, creating moments of pure sonic intimacy.

As the beat intensifies, so does the hypnotic pull of the song. The subtle, emotive sighs interspersed throughout serve as perfect interludes, adding yet another dimension to the experience. And then, the horns arrive, sudden, mesmerizing, and cinematic. Their inclusion feels like a turning point, lifting the track into an even more immersive soundscape.

When Leon’s voice finally fades, it leaves a void, a sense of withdrawal that lingers long after the song ends. The more we learn about her as an artist, the more intrigued and impressed we become. “Tan Lejos” is not just a song; it’s an experience, one that leaves us eager for more.

This release is more than just an impressive recording, it’s undeniable proof of Inez Leon’s magnetic performance and a testament to her talent. We predict a very bright future for her.

NAME - The Cage, a music blog powered by Cage Riot

Born to Mexican and Korean heritage, Inez Leon is a multifaceted composer, guitarist, and producer whose artistry transcends genres and cultures. Her latest project, the rock en español EP Del Alhelí, is a deeply personal exploration of identity and transformation. The title, translating to “of the wallflower,” reflects themes of quiet observation and self-discovery.

Released through Muse Tones, this body of work stems from Leon’s year spent in Mexico between summer 2023 and summer 2024, a period of reconnection and healing following the end of a long-term relationship. Inspired by her time in Oaxaca de Juárez, where she lived on the very street that gave the EP its name, Leon turned her reflections into some of her most intricate and authentic compositions to date.

Collaborating with accomplished guitarists and composers Pablo Langaine and Eric Barrita, she elevated her initial desire to refine her Spanish songwriting into a fully realized, highly produced collection of songs. With over 15 years of classical guitar training, a decade of production experience, and a lifelong passion for singing, Leon’s music seamlessly blends alternative R&B, acoustic rock, and Latin influences. A graduate of Occidental College with a BA in Music Production, she is now applying to master’s programs in film composition, further expanding her artistic reach. With this level of talent, education, and dedication, it is no surprise that this amazing recording stands as the culmination of her artistic and personal evolution.

Through Del Alhelí, Leon offers a heartfelt homage to Mexico, its culture, and the personal evolution it inspired within her. "Tan Lejos," the EP’s first single, poignantly captures the complexities of love, longing, and emotional conflict, setting the stage for what promises to be a strikingly resonant musical journey.

We are now officially big fans of Inez Leon and think you should be too!
