This ballad, released by powerhouse duo Jacob Browne and Luke Potter, known as Starlight Alice, is nothing short of fantastic. Get ready for a steady stream of dizzying adjectives we will use to describe how this song made us feel. Again, how it made us feel is the absolute key factor.
The opening melody is nothing short of magical. The gently strummed acoustic guitar intro leads into a beautiful vocal display. We hear the lyrics, “Mary sat me down so gently,” and the combination of reverb and proper mixing technique with the vocal cadence and delivery is tremendous. When you hear “gentlyyyyyyyyyyyy” you will fall hard just like we did for this song. Watching the accompanying lyric video, we could see a beautiful flower-filled meadow and the persona of “Mary” dancing about. Chills covered our skin because we saw and heard Mary as this wonderful and angelic entity that we could also appreciate as the person we wanted to have in our lives. The song made the ultimate connection for us in creating the idea that the song is about us!
The lyrics, “I found true love, I’ll never let her go”. These parts of the track are again delivering vocal drags, and the drawls are exemplary in control and power. Finally, the supporting musical arrangement with drums blending seamlessly into the mix was a truly standout performance that blew us away.
We feel this release is a top-quality performance that deserves global airplay. When it does, it will undoubtedly be a fan and industry favorite.
