Nathav’s latest EP, Moon River, is a stunning showcase of artistry, emotion, and innovation that left us completely captivated. Each track is a carefully crafted journey, blending haunting melodies, powerful vocals, and cinematic arrangements that resonate deeply with the listener.
The opening track, “You Still Miss Her,” immediately sets an evocative tone with its classical piano introduction, which exudes a somber, almost dark elegance. The subtle bass undertones reverberate gently, creating a hypnotic atmosphere. As Nathav’s vocals enter, the emotional intensity becomes palpable, drawing the listener into a poignant narrative.
Lines like:
“You still miss her / and I can’t take that away from you”
are deeply moving, encapsulating grief and longing in a way that feels universally relatable.
Nathav’s voice is a revelation, rich, velvety, and imbued with an operatic, cinematic quality that is both sweet and haunting. The ethereal piano arrangement enhances the cosmic and otherworldly feel of the track, making it a perfect candidate for a film soundtrack. It’s the kind of song that invites you to close your eyes and fully immerse yourself in its tender yet heart-wrenching message.
The title track, “Moon River,” takes the EP to soaring heights with its powerful vocal delivery and dynamic energy. Nathav’s voice takes on a commanding presence, weaving a story with an almost theatrical flair. The punchy, driving piano complements the vocals flawlessly, adding drama and momentum to the song. There’s an old-school, jazzy undercurrent intertwined with eerie, horror-movie-inspired synth harmonies, creating a unique and refreshing soundscape. This blend of vintage and contemporary elements feels daring and innovative, while the Broadway-esque power and emotional intensity of the song make it unforgettable. It’s a dramatic and thrilling experience, unlike anything we’ve encountered before.
The closing track, “Look at Us Now,” showcases yet another facet of Nathav’s remarkable talent. Stripping back the instrumentation to a delicate, twinkling backdrop, this song allows the vocals to shine in a soft, breathy, almost falsetto style. The staccato phrasing adds a sense of intimacy and anticipation, keeping the listener on edge, savoring each note and lyric. Nathav’s ability to convey raw vulnerability with such precision and grace is nothing short of mesmerizing. This track feels like a whispered secret, delicate yet profound, leaving a lasting impression.
The engineering and production throughout Moon River are impeccable. Every element, from the lush, crystalline mix to the expertly balanced mastering, ensures that the vocals and instrumentation work in perfect harmony. The result is a sound that is crisp, immersive, and emotionally resonant.

Mathilde Lunderskov, the creative force behind Nathav, takes her moniker from the Danish term for "Night Sea," a name that perfectly encapsulates the deep, enigmatic qualities of her artistry. A composer and vocalist with a career spanning eclectic genres, Lunderskov has a remarkable ability to craft music that resonates with emotional depth and sonic complexity.
Her musical journey began as the lead singer of the Scandinavian indie-pop trailblazers Lovebites, a band celebrated for shaping the Nordic indie sound alongside acts like Mew and Moi Caprice. Lovebites released three albums, toured extensively across Europe and Japan, and earned substantial airplay on platforms like Danish Radio and MTV. After the group disbanded, Lunderskov delved into the underground scene, forming the dream-pop noir ensemble Blake, a project that toured Europe and even ventured into hip-hop and electronic collaborations.
In 2010, Lunderskov joined forces with her brother Lukas Lunderskov to create the synth-pop duo Umatic, releasing the critically lauded album Ashes & Diamonds. The album garnered significant attention from international blogs and won a Danish Underground Music Award (UMA) for Best Electronica. This period cemented her reputation as a versatile and forward-thinking artist unafraid to push boundaries.
Nathav marks her solo evolution, a project that delves into shadowy, atmospheric electronic pop. Her earlier Danish-language work, such as Er Det Blod and Stumpt Våben, established her penchant for enigmatic lyrics and minimalist soundscapes. With her new EP, Moon River, Lunderskov ventures into an English-language realm, drawing on fragments of her past work while exploring fresh emotional terrain. Produced by Noah Rosanes, the EP was recorded live, lending it an organic intimacy that pairs beautifully with its evocative themes of heartbreak and transition.
Lunderskov's voice, often likened to iconic artists like Kate Bush and Goldfrapp, carries a rare, otherworldly magnetism. Her career highlights include touring with Blake as a supporting act for Saybia, extensive airplay for singles like “Tiger” on Danish National Radio, and contributions to soundtracks and children’s music in her early years. A classically trained pianist since the age of six, she brings a lifetime of musical expertise and a fearless creative spirit to every project she undertakes.
With Moon River, Nathav continues to expand her darkly poetic universe, blending lush piano compositions with haunting vocals to create music that lingers long after the final note. Whether revisiting past inspirations or breaking new ground, Mathilde Lunderskov’s artistry remains a compelling force, poised to captivate audiences far and wide.
