We had the chance to catch up with Molly Esmeralda for an exclusive interview in "The Cage" Music Blog.

Here’s how it went:

Begin Interview

Hello Molly Esmeralda, we’re thrilled to have you for this interview! We've thoroughly enjoyed diving into your music and exploring your work, and now we’re even more eager to discover more about you, both personally and professionally.

Is your stage name your given name and what led you to choose this method of connecting your artistry with fans?

Hi Marina, thank you for having me and taking the time to talk to me!

Yeah, Molly Esmeralda is my first and middle name actually, not the most common Swedish name, I know. Wanted to keep it personal and stick to my own name but with a slight twist of not having first and last name.

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been performing, singing, dancing all my life, but been making music for maybe the last 8 years. I used to work with extreme music (sony) and lift music writing and selling music for library music and sync. Then this year decided I wanted to release music in my name, for me, which has been really exciting.

How did your background in storytelling influence the way you craft your songs, especially with “Carry On”?

I think whether you write poetry, lyrics, screenplays or anything else, it’s all storytelling right, so I think I treat all art the same in terms of how I write it. I always write what I know. When I write a character for a scrip or storyline, I always draw on my own experience, my own struggles and joys. Same with my music, I like to think of each track as a short story, some more specific than others of course.

What inspired you to blend vulnerability and strength in your music? Was there a specific experience that shaped this duality?

Well, yes, I’ve always had a hard time being vulnerable, it’s really something I’ve had to work on, I never used to cry or be upset really, strange I know. I guess it was a defence mechanism of some sort. I was always very strong. But when I decided to breakdown that wall, I found something really beautiful in that pain and sadness, in the vulnerable. And what I learned was that being vulnerable doesn’t necessarily mean weak. So when I write now I try to portray the balance of being able to be both vulnerable and strong.

You mentioned embracing joy and freedom with this single. How important is it for you to infuse those feelings into your music? What’s the most important message you want listeners to take away from “Carry On”?

For me this song is all about daring to try again despite heartbreak or whatever set back, to be brave. Brave to open up again, to reconnect to the joys in life. You know, we only have this one life, I think it’s important to not take it too seriously and really try to focus on making it the best we can, shift focus from obstacles to opportunities, and then only way to do that is being brave, dance through it and just simply carry on.

What part of the music-making process is the most stressful, ie the creation, the actual release date, etc?

I think the most stressful is probably making sure someone hears it if I am being completely honest, trying to get it streamed, it’s everything that comes after release day. But second to that is knowing when to stop producing, deciding when to lock in the final production of the song. You know at that time you’ve heard many different versions over and over and it’s sometimes really hard to make the decision on what production to commit to.

Which of your already released songs, including this one, is the most important to you, or had the most impact on your life or career and can you tell us why?

Difficult decision, but if I had to pick I think “Over You” is very special to me It’s about the bittersweet nature of love and the inevitable pain of growing apart. Intimacy, loss, and the complexity of human relationships. I still to this day can’t understand how we can love someone so much and then fall out of love, or go from strangers to lovers, back to strangers.

Was there ever a time when you emotionally felt, “I can’t do this anymore”? How did you find the strength to continue?

Oh many times haha. I feel that at least once a year. But I always come back to the same feeling and conclusion, which is just, I wouldn’t want to do anything else. So I guess it’s both a blessing and a curse.

Most people love or hate social media—where do you land?

Oh, I absolutely hate it haha. I don’t like being on there. I am, but I don’t like it. Unfortunately for artist nowadays you have to be active on socials. It’s such a big apart of the it. I wish I was better at it.

What’s next for you? Can you give us a sneak peek into what’s coming after “Carry On”?

Yes, I am very excited, I have more music coming this year, the next song I will release is called “Used to love”, its about acknowledge the reality of a relationship with moments that once felt meaningful now appearing hollow. Seeing someone clearly after putting someone on a pedestal, which I think we do so often in relationships. Ultimately, it's about letting go and accepting that the love you once shared has faded, leaving only memories of how things used to be.

Molly Esmeralda, thank you so much, we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!

—---------------------------------------“Carry On” LYRICS—-----------------------------------------------------

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

(so ready for the and I’m so ready for the)

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

(ready for the and I’m so ready for the)

My lips have the power of attorney

We’ve been running from the money to the sun

Bright city lights and martian skies

Oh oh oh

Ain’t nobody here too dumb to miss the fun

If you’re still feeling it from last night

You might wanna press retry

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

Feels like I’m losing control

But I dare carry on

A hundred people in my living room

A million outside

Feels like we’re losing it all

But we dare carry on

Big dreams with no fear of being forgotten

If we had to do it all again I would

Been summer high with sleepless nights

Oh oh oh

Ain’t nobody here too dumb to miss the fun

Incase tomorrow is out last dance

Why don’t we press retry

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

Feels like I’m losing control

But I dare carry on

A hundred people in my living room

A million outside

Feels like we’re losing it all

But we dare carry on

You can have your luck back tomorrow

Lose your inhibition for one night

This room is no place for sorrow

I’m so ready for the and I’m so ready for the

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

Feels like I’m losing control

But I dare carry on

I’m so ready for the

and I’m so ready for the

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

Falling into your arms

And I’m so ready for the weekend

Feels like we’re losing it all

But we dare carry on

Feels like I’m losing it all

But I dare carry on
