Wait, there's more!

We caught up with this exciting and emerging artist, Dorian, for “The Cage” Music Blog to talk about music and learn more about them.

Here’s how it went:

Hello Dorian, when did you start making music?

I released my first song, “Any Thing Goes,” back in 2019. After years of self-recording music, writing, and preparing, I finally took that leap of faith, and it felt life-changing.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this project to life, from the initial idea to the final recording?

The entire process of having an idea for a song, writing it, recording it, mixing and mastering it, putting visuals to it, then promoting it and performing it—it's an entire process and lifecycle. As an independent artist, it takes a lot of work!

What has been the most motivating force in creating your music?

Love. God’s love. And wanting to share that. Also, my life experiences, because I pour my life and heart into my music. It means a lot to me because it is healing.

If there was one thing you could change about the music industry, what would it be?

More fairness in opportunity and pay for creatives! The game has changed so much over the years, and in the streaming age, I believe the industry needs a complete overhaul.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Get to know yourself again. Don’t let the opinions or perceptions of others change you or keep you from being your authentic self. Things change beautifully for you once you do!

Where do you currently reside, and what is the live music venue scene like there?

Here in the DC, Maryland, Virginia (USA) area, the diversity and fresh talent are inspiring. Particularly in the Baltimore, Maryland area, I’ve connected with a lot of dope independent artists. It’s been amazing.

What is your favorite quote?

One of my favorites is: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Pretty self-explanatory, but so important to my life philosophy.

How do you feel about social media?

Social media is a powerful tool and way to connect with so many people and resources all over the world. Social media can also be overwhelming at times; there’s a lot going on all the time. It’s important to take breaks. But overall, and for what it can be used for, it’s great.

When you reach the stage where you have the admiration and respect of other world-renowned artists, what band or artist would you love to call and say, “Let’s go on tour together”?

Aw man, I’d love to one day be next to Usher or Chris Brown on a tour or at least on stage! Ultimate entertainers! I really respect and look up to them as artists.

We have experienced that many people perform acts of selflessness each day. Once your artistry has reached far and wide, how will you use that more powerful voice to have a bigger positive impact on our world?

I want to give back for sure. That has always been a part of my plan in life—to reach a point where I can be a huge blessing to those that really need resources and opportunities. I’d like for my music and content to unite people and create change in the way artists like Michael Jackson did.

What is the most inspirational thing a fan, or anyone, has told or shown you about your music?

Nigel Battle is a reality star and content creator who really showed love and support for me and my music in a way that touched me deeply. He spoke so much life into my gifts and continues to. He says I’m his favorite artist, so that is totally humbling and awesome to hear. I love him.

Can you tell the fans something they might not know about you and why you create music?

Some people may believe that I do music for personal reasons, and in some ways that is true. It’s always been a dream of mine to do music. But I truly believe it is a part of my life’s purpose. I believe I am doing something bigger than myself when I make music. And I just want to share my gifts and love of music with the world. My new single “Reconnected” embodies all of these emotions!
