David Goundry's new single "Coming Right At You" delivers a burst of pop-rock energy ahead of the full album release
We had the chance to check out this new video release by David Goundry. The track opens with soft and gentle acoustic guitars as we see our singer and protagonist walking down the street, carrying a worn and well-used guitar case. When the vocals enter, we were impressed by this singer's unique and powerful vocal presentation. The song starts to build, creating an exciting atmosphere with beautiful supporting harmonies that elevate this singer's performance.
We continue to see images of Goundry in the studio and walking through the streets, as we hear the lyrical message: “I’m not the man I used to be, stormy waves breaking over me like a shadow on the wall, reaching out, always wanting more.” The chorus enters, and it's tremendous and full, with a beautiful build that truly captivates the listener. We think the video production is absolutely terrific, filled with stunning shots and imagery, and the editing and styling of the visuals maintain the viewer's interest throughout.
The choice to let Goundry’s voice sit high in the mix and be the focal point of the song was brilliant. The guitars are robust yet gentle, with a style that complements the beat. We were really impressed when the song took an interlude, and we heard, “I am way down because you need love.” This was definitely a standout moment in the song. And there's no doubt some influences of the Beatles are present in both the imagery and musical arrangement.
One aspect we found particularly excellent was that, as we watched Goundry walk through the streets, we just couldn’t help but want to know his destination. This keeps your eyes fixated on every scene and every moment in the video, which is, of course, always the goal of any artist. When you combine that with the terrific stylings and performance of this song, it makes for a huge win. When we reach the end of the song, we realize that the journey of this artist is truly to perform and excite the viewer and listener—exactly what Goundry managed to achieve!
