Okay, so let me just say, This Egg by Connor Kelly & The Time Warp is the kind of album you throw on and immediately start feeling all the vibes. These guys are totally repping that “dad rock” sound, but like, in a cool way. If you’re into psychedelic rock with a bit of Appalachian flair, these guys have seriously nailed it. Think Pink Floyd meets Radiohead with a dash of Red Hot Chili Peppers – but with their own twist, obviously.
Out of the 12 tracks, here are my top three picks that totally stole the show for me:
First, "This Egg" kicks things off with this eerie, slow-burn vibe that just pulls you in. Connor Kelly’s voice is like smoke curling around your brain – soft, yet intense, and honestly, it feels like he’s spilling his soul with every word. When he sings, “This Egg will become a cage and then become the ground,” it's like he’s speaking some deep truth about dreams turning into prisons. Heavy stuff, but it’s so beautifully haunting you kinda wanna live in it.
Next up, "Roy G. Biv" comes out of nowhere and slaps you in the face. It’s gritty guitars and pounding drums that make you wanna throw your hands in the air and just feel all the energy. But here’s the thing: Roy G. Biv isn’t just a cool name—it’s an acronym for the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet). The band cleverly uses it to tap into the idea of identity and embracing all the different layers of who we are. It's like a kaleidoscope of emotions wrapped up in one track. Plus, who doesn't love a good color reference, right? It's a whole vibe.
And then, "Lines in Your Face" – Ugh, this track is everything. It’s gritty, experimental, and pure fun. If you want something that’s gonna push your limits while keeping that rock ‘n roll spirit, this track is it. It takes influence from Pink Floyd and Radiohead, but still stays true to their own fresh sound. It’s like a power anthem that’s just so good, you’ll wanna replay it on loop.
Connor Kelly & The Time Warp aren’t just making music – they’re making experiences. With their electrifying riffs and infectious rhythms, they’re keeping rock alive and kicking, but with their own fresh spin. If you’re into a mix of psychedelic rock and that classic, gritty sound that still manages to feel modern, this album is everything.
Oh, and this band never stops touring—seriously, they’re always on the road. They just wrapped up a run through Europe, the U.S., and a killer set at Treefort Music Festival. But don’t worry, they’ll be back on the road soon, so keep your eyes peeled for their next round of dates. You won’t wanna miss it!
This Egg is the kind of album you’ll want to put on repeat and get lost in. It’s deep, it’s vibey, and most importantly, it’s pure rock ‘n roll magic.
