Classtronaut Unveils “Chemical Reaction” – A Beautiful but Emotional Synthpop Adventure

Classtronaut's latest single, “Chemical Reaction”, is a psychedelic pop journey that offers a blend of dreamy soundscapes and poignant storytelling. The Boise-based synthpop quartet has crafted a song that exudes an expansive, atmospheric sound while tapping into the deepest of human emotions. Chemical Reaction stands as a sonic response to a profound life-altering event, and the band’s ability to transform personal pain into art is strikingly evident throughout the track.

The vocals are both distinct and haunting, offering a striking showcase of range and emotional depth. Classtronaut’s ability to turn life’s hardships into mesmerizing art is unparalleled, and their sound pulls the listener into a reflective space. Chemical Reaction plays like a soothing balm, layered with lush synths and an airy ambiance that creates a soundscape perfect for introspection.

At its heart, the song carries an emotional weight unlike any other, born from the band's personal experience with the diagnosis of a rare genetic disorder in a child. This intimate backstory fuels “Chemical Reaction”, making it more than just music—it becomes a testament to resilience and the healing nature of artistic expression. The track is a cathartic release, wrapped in ethereal tones that invoke a sense of both sorrow and hope.

The instrumentation is as captivating as the narrative. With its smooth, yet intricate production, Classtronaut balances vintage synth sounds with modern pop structures, resulting in a piece that feels timeless yet contemporary. The song ebbs and flows with graceful intensity, offering listeners a journey through both sonic exploration and emotional release.

Having performed alongside the likes of Petite Noir and Mystery Skulls, Classtronaut has earned a reputation for their infectious live performances. Their feature at the 2024 Treefort Music Festival only reinforced their growing status in the indie music scene, and “Chemical Reaction” is sure to elevate them even further.

Powerful Quote from this artist:

“Despite Classtronaut’s upbeat approach to their music, these songs were birthed from a place of profound emotional depth and resilience. Brian, one of the band’s founding members, shares the heart-wrenching story behind their creation: "Our son was diagnosed at birth with a rare genetic illness. In the two years that followed, I found myself mostly sleeping on small couches, squeezed tightly in the corner of dark hospital rooms. During this time, music became a critical outlet to escape the pain that was all around me. I would email Gus new song ideas at all hours of the night. In between hospital stays, we would arrange vocals and instruments. It certainly wasn’t a typical songwriting process, but it personally helped me get through some dark times. We debuted a collection of songs at a local venue to a widely receptive audience. I think it speaks to how Classtronaut came to be. We wrote this music as an escape, not thinking so much as to whether people would show up to listen to us.”

Critics have described Chemical Reaction as:

"A multilayered rich psychedelic production, reminiscent of Pond and Tame Impala.”
