Diving right into Chronyx’s latest self-titled album, we found it to be a truly distinctive and remarkable release. The band delivers an outstanding presentation that pushes creative boundaries and leaves a lasting impression.
We kicked things off with the track “Pretty Playa,” and it immediately showcased the band’s uniqueness and innovative approach to genre fluidity. From the start, the rhythmic bass guitar set a compelling groove that pulled us in, but just as we settled into its vibe, the band erupted in unexpected and exhilarating ways. The electric guitars and drums roared with fiery intensity, delivering an energetic, in-your-face performance. The vocals were raw, blistering, and gritty, weaving an authentic blend of hip-hop, heavy metal, and even a touch of R&B. This bold fusion of styles felt daring and groundbreaking, creating a fresh and captivating experience that worked flawlessly.
Next up, “Let’s Be Real” captivated us with its stunning guitar work and rolling melodies that seemed to command physical movement. The guitars were mixed with a floating, ethereal quality that evoked the grandeur of classical music while remaining firmly rooted in rock and roll. The vocals, punctuated by exhilarating screams, injected grit and intensity into the track. The song’s textured sound was anchored by the bass, which provided a solid foundation while maintaining a dynamic and innovative feel.
“Don’t Tell Mama” shifted the spotlight to the drums, which took center stage with a commanding presence. The percussion drove the powerful arrangement, propelling the song with a thunderous momentum that perfectly complemented the melody’s muscular energy. We especially enjoyed the dragging, deliberate pacing of the track, enriched by layers of electric guitar. This song stands out as another testament to the band’s ability to craft compelling and memorable moments.
The album’s engineering deserves high praise. The production is impressively clean, with vocals that cut through the mix beautifully, adding to the overall engaging experience. The mixing and mastering struck a perfect balance, ensuring each instrument was clear and distinct while blending seamlessly for a cohesive sound. We also appreciated the authenticity maintained throughout the album—the instrumentation and vocals felt raw and genuine, avoiding the pitfalls of overproduction and creating a listening experience that felt both polished and real.
With this exceptional work, Chronyx demonstrates they are an artist on the rise. Their ability to push boundaries and innovate while delivering such a compelling album ensures we’ll be eagerly watching for what they do next.
