Chris Herring releases emotional and raw new single "I AM"

Chris Herring rolls in strong with his new track "I AM," a song that’s both deeply personal and socially relevant. What’s incredible right from the start is that he’s addressing some serious, real-world issues with a song that stems from the impactful situation surrounding mental health and the tragedy of Sandra Bland. There’s an authenticity in his delivery that’s undeniable. From the very beginning, the song carries a disclaimer, signaling that Chris had to be cautious about breaking any laws with his lyrics, a limitation that big-name artists often don’t face. Despite the hurdles, Herring finds a way to deliver a powerful message that hits hard.

The track itself has a sharp cadence, shifting from rap to singing effortlessly. Herring’s rap sections are tight, showing off his speed and lyrical precision. There’s something captivating in the way he changes up the vocal styling throughout, moving from one emotional state to another like different characters stepping into the spotlight. The simple beat is effective, letting the lyrics take the forefront. When Chris switches to singing, we’re treated to his well-controlled, powerful vocals, adding layers of emotion that make the song even more impactful.

One standout moment in the track is when Herring speed-raps, seamlessly transitioning through different emotions and narratives. It adds energy and urgency to the song, and the shift in pace keeps listeners hooked. A lyric that really stuck with us was "no I’m not bad that there mine that’s right I got more seniority," which feels like a punchline to the complex and profound storytelling in the song. Herring is pouring his heart into this, and it shows in every line.

The engineering on this track is sharp and precise, letting each element shine distinctly. The vocal tracks are placed perfectly, complementing the beat without overpowering it. This song stands out in terms of both its message and its execution. Chris Herring has proven that he’s got the talent and the vision to make waves in the music world.

Chris Herring is a Chicago-based rapper and songwriter whose career is filled with impressive accomplishments. How Long Have You Been Making Music?

Ive been making music Since 9 years old.

Can you tell us how recording your music like "I AM" creative process?

Yes, It all starts with the melody of the track, the tempo, and frequency help me choose which flow im going to use when creating metaphores and rhymes. Next i replace mumbling and humming noises with words. This particular song felt a bit dark. So when generating the hook i wanted the listeners to be kinda spooked. i wanted the listeners to say to themselves "what does he mean once i get alone in a room with ya, you gone find out who i really am." I paid my respect to Sandra Bland, while saying a disclaimer to avoid being prosecuted under the Sandra Bland Act. Act where you can be imprisoned, lost in the system due to mental health. From there i decided to play the game. you see theres a game some rappers not only rappers but most artist are playing where they speak indirectly to certain indiviuals through music without mentioning that particular person or peoples names(subliminals). i also decided to enlighten the minds of some conspiracy theorist. This was all done in the first verse. The the second verse was pretty much portions of my life story. i explained my stuggles as a young adult and how i over came them.

How did working with engineer Slavis influence the Project?

Slavis is a Create Engineer. I Love his mixing techniques. my favorite part of mixing is the reverb and echoes he does those exceptional well.

What is your favorite Quote?

Never Give Up On Yourself - Chris Herring

When you reach the stage where you have the admiration and respect of other world-known artists, what band or artist would you love to call and say, "Let’s go on tour together"?

Great question, i would like to work with anyone who wants to make beautiful music our fans would enjoy.

Most people love or hate social media—where do you land? I only use social media business, so neither hate or enjoy it.

It's just a tool to me to grow my brand.

Was there ever a time when you emotionally felt, "I can't do this anymore"? How did you find the strength to continue?

Yes, in the beginning when my budget was tight and I was learning to navigate social media. I wanted to give up a few times after being scammed out of money. I realized that's part of business and if you don't have a mentor qor manager you have to learn the hard way. I took it as loss and through trial and error develop a list of influencer bloggers and platforms I could trust.

What are the main challenges you face as a solo artist, and how do the benefits of working independently compare?

Working as a independent artist you learn everything about the business and the profit margin is bigger. It cost me more financially in the beginning. I'm wiser, knowledgeable and more financial stable in the end.

If there was one thing you could change about the music industry, what would it be? Artist would be able to making music about killing one another.
