Begin Interview:

Hello CHINSON, we’re thrilled to have you here for this interview! We've had an amazing time exploring your music and diving into your creative journey. Now, we’re even more excited to get a deeper look into both your brand and your personal and professional inspirations.

What inspired the name CHINSON for your artist persona? How does it capture the connection you want to build with your fans?

CHINSON was originally a nickname I was given in high school and it stuck with me ever since so when I started making music it was a no-brainer what to call my artist persona.

We read "Only Us" represents a significant turning point in your career. What motivated you to embrace Melodic Techno, and how has this shift challenged or inspired you creatively?

When I discovered EDM back in 2013 I was immediately in love with it, watching all the best DJ’s in the world perform on live streams and at events like Hardwell, Don Diablo, Swedish House Mafia, deadmau5, Eric Prydz is what inspired me to start making music. I wanted to produce Progressive House, Electro House and Big Room just like the DJ’s I loved but because I wasn’t trained or knew anything about music theory at the time it was challenging for me and as I started doing more commercial / mainstream nightclub DJ gigs I switched my music to Deep House and Piano House vowing to one day go back to making the music I always wanted to from the start. When I discovered Melodic Techno, following its rise in recent years and now having a lot more knowledge of music theory and production I knew I was ready to embrace the genre and that’s the realm I want CHINSON to be in. Shifting from one genre to another has been challenging so far and you can hear that in my last few releases but I feel what I’m making now is definitely reflecting my creativity instead of the difficulty of the transition; Only Us being a statement of that.

You mentioned that "Only Us" has a brighter, more uplifting vibe compared to the darker tones typically found in Melodic Techno. How did you strike that balance while still staying true to the genre?

It was a challenge but from the darker tones point of view it came down to keeping the first half of the drops simple with the dark synth stabs, rolling bass and the percussion hits. From the brighter uplifting vibe point of view Kayrae’s voice brings the track to life along with the brighter plucks synths and pads during the main breakdown and the second half of the drops. All together Only Us is a Melodic Techno track with a lot Progressive House elements which is what I believe helps the track stand out in the realm of Melodic Techno.

Collaborating with Kayrae seems to have been a pivotal moment in bringing this track to life. What drew you to her as a vocalist, and how did her contributions shape the final sound of the track?

Well I had a number of vocalists approach me to work on the track but what made Kayrae stand out was that she’s worked on Progressive House tracks before and had the perfect voice for the genre. After listening to her previous work I knew she was the vocalist I needed which was the right choice because she wrote the lyrics straight away, recorded them and had them sent to me in such short time. Kayrae’s contribution really brought out the emotion of the track; without her Only Us wouldn’t be the track it is.

We read you’ve said that working with multi-layered vocals was a challenge but also a learning experience. Can you share some specific lessons or techniques you discovered during this process?

Its sounds so simple I know but trust your ears, automate everything and keep every version of a track you make or are working on, its so easy to get so caught up in the process you can forget that sometimes less is more and referencing previous versions of a track you weren’t gonna use is very good to identify issues you missed.

Melodic Techno has been experiencing a resurgence. What do you think sets your interpretation of the genre apart from others in the space?

I wouldn’t say it sets me apart from others but my interpretation is that the resurgence is down to artists like Anyma, Cassian and John Summit bringing a more commercially appealing sound to the genre while yes it does bring a more commercially appealing audience it still maintains the underground feeling of it, I can see where the genre could go through trying new ways of making Melodic Techno like incorporating elements and influences of other genres and I do believe there’s no limit where that can take the Melodic Techno genre; that applies to any genre really.

As "Only Us" marks the start of a new chapter for you, what can fans expect next in terms of your sound or upcoming projects?

Right now they can expect more Melodic Techno tracks from me with some being more dark and true to the genre and some with more Progressive House elements like Only Us.

You’ve transitioned from producing Deep House and Piano House to Melodic Techno. Are there any elements from your earlier work that you’ve carried into this new direction?

I would say all the music I’ve released during my transition period showcases that! My previous releases like Poison Tree & Want You Now definitely show elements of my previous work going into this new direction.

What role do you think emotion plays in electronic music, and how do you aim to connect with listeners on an emotional level through your tracks?

For me emotion is everything in electronic music, that euphoric feeling is second to none and its what makes music so special to me. I just hope that when people listen to my music that can feel the emotion and euphoria; that’s what makes it all count at the end of the day.

"Only Us" has a dynamic production process that required meticulous attention to detail. How do you maintain creativity and focus when working on such intricate projects?

I would say the key to maintaining focus while being inspired and creative is balancing everything in day to day life and not to put too much pressure on the creative process of making music.

The energy and innovation in "Only Us" stand out. How do you approach infusing originality into your music while staying relevant in the electronic music scene?

I believe originality comes from the creative process of making music naturally so as long as I stay true to what I’m making I know the originality is something I don’t need to worry or think about.

Looking back at the year-long journey of creating "Only Us," is there a particular moment or breakthrough that you’re especially proud of?

I’m proud of the whole process really, from the start of the idea to the finished track being released on Ballroom Records but Only Us will be a track I’ll always be proud of because not only is it the first Melodic Techno track to be released by me but its the first Melodic Techno project I started as well so I feel a sense of achievement to finish the first track started going in this new direction.

With Melodic Techno and Progressive House influences evident in this track, are there other genres or styles you’d like to explore in the future?

I would definitely like to explore Afro House and Progressive House in future, mainly cause I’m loving the rise of Afro House right now and Progressive House is a genre I’ve always loved with Eric Prydz and deadmau5 being a big inspiration for that.

In a world where the music industry can be demanding, have you ever faced moments where you questioned continuing? What motivates you to push through those moments?

Of course I’ve had moments throughout the years where I question myself “Is it worth it?” but my love and passion is too strong to give up; CHINSON is who I am and I’d be nothing without it.

Which top 3 live music festivals are on your bucket list to perform at?

Oh that’s easy, Ultra Miami because its their live streams that ultimately exposed me to EDM, Tomorrowland speaks for itself as its the best festival in the world and last but not least Creamfields because with it being close to home it has a sentimental feeling for me so to play there would be a dream come true; If I ever do I’ll know I’ve made it.

What’s one fun or surprising fact about you that fans might not know?

Outside of music I love Formula 1, video games and Football with Liverpool being the team I support.

So, what’s next? Can you share the full details on your future projects and what fans should be excited about? We’re hearing about more releases, and we’d love to be the first to announce it!

Well my focus is now on 2025, I have 1 track being released in December, 1 track coming out in January and I’m currently working to get another track signed in February but that’s all I can really say for now. In the meantime I’ll be working on loads of music to release in 2025 but my ultimate goal is to start playing at events and festivals performing as CHINSON; keep you’re eyes and ears open as this is just the start.

CHINSON, thank you so much, we appreciate you taking the time to talk to us!
