Beatrice Laus, also known as beabadoobee, has recently released her third studio album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, which is a departure from her previous shoegaze style. The album draws inspiration from 1990s and 2000s indie sounds, blending brightness and boldness while reflecting the transition from youthful angst to adulthood. In tracks like "Take A Bite" and "California," she explores themes of self-acceptance and embracing the realizations of growing up. This album marks a significant shift in her musical style, embracing a 1990s and 2000s indie-pop mix with contemporary alternative rock elements.

The highly anticipated album highlight, "Real Man," lives up to expectations on This Is How Tomorrow Moves. In this track, the artist explores themes of disappointment and disillusionment within a relationship while infusing the lyrics with humor that reflects her frustration with unmet expectations.

"And I already told you I just wanted to dance

Could you see me standing out here with my outstretched hand

guess no one ever taught you how to be a real man."

The track exudes a playful Fiona Apple-esque vibe as Laus attributes her partner's shortcomings to the lack of someone educating him on how a man is supposed to behave.

Laus showcases her musicality with tracks like "Tie My Shoes" and "Girl Song." In "Tie My Shoes," she expresses her frustrations with a distant father figure, letting her soft vocalizations carry the emotional weight of the track. The tender delivery uniquely contrasts with her deep-seated feelings of disappointment. Then, in "Girl Song," Laus swaps her guitar for a bright piano, creating a beautifully ethereal atmosphere. While her voice remains delicate, she's as self-assured as ever, even as she shares her insecurities about her appearance and personal identity.

"Waking up to hardly recognizing my face

Just a stranger in the mirror thinking, oh, what a shame."

Laus showcases her ability to navigate complex emotions in songs like this, asserting her development as a self-assured and confident artist.

Laus continues her sonic exploration with the bossa nova-inspired “Coming Home.” In this track, she maintains her introspective lyricism, explaining how she feels guilty about frequently being away and acknowledging the strain it puts on her relationship. However, she holds onto hope, believing they can make it work regardless, as she sings, “I’m not sorry ‘cause this time I won’t be late.”

As for “Ever Seen” transitions from what was originally a country tune into a starry-eyed indie-pop track. It brings a dreamy quality to the song, blending Laus’ heartfelt storytelling with a more upbeat and expansive sound that defines.

'“This Is How Tomorrow Moves”

Cause I spent some time waiting for your face

Don’t want to risk just making all the same mistakes.”

"The track "Post" brings back a captivating indie rock vibe with a strong chorus and impactful verses, infusing the album with a burst of energy. The lyrics delve into personal experiences, one person feeling drained while unmet expectations let the other down. Laus sings with passion, expressing her longing with the lyrics, "And all I wanted the most, Was to see your name on the post." However, the standout of the album is the track "Beaches," showcasing Laus' delightful vocals and compelling lyrics. The song revolves around the concept of finding solace and clarity in the right beaches, beautifully captured in the chorus, "Cause days blend to one when I'm on the right beaches

And the walls painted white, they tell me all the secrets," conveying her desire to live in the moment rather than waiting for the perfect time."

In her third album, beabadoobee explores themes of growth, loss, and human connection. The album concludes with the sentimental track "This Is How It Went," leaving listeners with a sense of understanding and resolution.

beabadoobee is set to kick off the 12-date This Is How Tomorrow Moves Tour in North America to promote the new album. The indie band HOWDY will join her as the supporting act.
