Ashley Barksdale Drops Empowering New Single “Redemption” Packed with Catchy Beats and Uplifting Lyrics

Soon-to-be pop sensation Ashley Barksdale explodes right out of the gate with “Redemption,” delivering a powerful and sweet-sounding first impression. We were instantly captivated by this upbeat pop dance track. Barksdale has an infectious yet unpredictable sound and unique delivery, managing to cover all sides of the audible spectrum in this performance. We read that Barksdale is inspired by Quincy Jones, and with this heavy bass infused track, you can tell that there are definitely some of those Q influences here.

This song also dives into emotions, and Barksdale does a great job lyrically of sharing them. When you hear the lyrics, “I come from a place where I was lost in the dark, I’m back on my feet now, baby ready. Push the start,” you will instantly be electrified by the waves of audible fun that pop off this track while soaking up the message.

About a third of the way in, there’s definitely some very cool lyrical cadence styling, where Barksdale speeds up and slows down, really pulling you all over the track and keeping you at a high level of excitement throughout the whole song. Their are some sweet '80s stylings perfectly placed with a musical interlude, and of course, Barksdale comes back full force to keep the party going, if that’s where you’re listening to this song, which no doubt you probably are. If you’re in your car with the windows down, this is a perfect summer banger too. One more influence we definitely heard and couldn’t leave out is the huge, heavy hitter Madonna from the '80s era. There’s definitely a higher BPM to Barksdale's sound, but you can’t miss these influences, and it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anybody go down that route. It’s really refreshing to hear it!

Ashley Barksdale is a pop singer/songwriter hailing from upstate New York and now based in Brooklyn. Known for crafting music that keeps listeners moving, she writes for those "whose feet just don't stop moving, and their bodies don't stop grooving." With influences like Dua Lipa, Katy Perry, and the legendary Quincy Jones, Barksdale’s sound blends contemporary pop sensibilities with a touch of classic inspiration. Her music is a vibrant expression of self-discovery and resilience, created to resonate with listeners searching for their own voice.

Ashley Barksdale's, “Redemption,” is a self-produced and written track that’s all about overcoming adversity and finding your true self. Recorded in the comfort of her home and produced at the Roc Nation School Studios, this track delves into the process of moving through tough times, reevaluating one's identity, and emerging stronger than ever. As Barksdale puts it, “Have you ever been somebody who was lost in the dark, didn’t think you could find a way out? Have you ever taken the time to reevaluate who you really are?” The song is a powerful anthem for anyone needing a moment of reflection and a reminder that redemption is always within reach.

The energy of “Redemption” is infectious, perfect for moments when you’re reconnecting with yourself and your intentions. Barksdale’s catchy rhythms and heartfelt lyrics are designed to help listeners find their own path back to the light. As she describes herself:

“Ashley Barksdale is a pop girl, with her shades on, ready to take on the pop realm,”

-and this track proves she’s ready to make her mark.
