Annie & The Make Believe recently dropped their latest track, “It Got Bad,” and we had to dive into the music video on YouTube.
From the very first moments, the video is captivating, sparking immediate curiosity with its striking visuals and bold creativity.
Opening with black-and-white footage that feels straight out of the late '50s or early '60s, we’re immediately drawn into the aesthetic, which perfectly complements the music. Annie’s vocal tone is unforgettable—a blend of power and distinct intonation that amplifies the song’s emotional depth right from the start.
The moment the lyrics hit:
“It got bad / I was flying to the moon / but you pulled me back into your arms / I was nothing but a fool,”
we’re pulled into the story of heartbreak, and it’s all so perfectly framed by the gentle rhythm of guitars and soft drums, creating a mesmerizing mood for the entire track.
As the song unfolds, it feels like the intensity rises. When Annie reaches the line:
“Oh, you told me that you cared / you just cared about yourself,”
it resonates deeply, allowing listeners to feel the heartbreak. This line is a masterstroke in connecting with the audience because everyone can relate to the ache of betrayal, and for some, it might even hit close to home right now.
As we reach the pre-chorus, Annie & The Make Believe take things up a notch. The sound expands, with the guitars building from subtle strums to bolder strokes, adding a vibrant layer to the song’s energy. Annie’s vocals grow stronger, more impassioned, and her power and control are nothing short of impressive. The video mirrors this shift with scenes of a couple at odds, culminating in the woman left tearfully alone, adding to the raw, emotional message of the song. The editing here is fantastic, seamlessly weaving between scenes with changes in direction and props that keep us riveted.
Then, about three-quarters into the track, the song reaches a high point with a beautifully distorted electric guitar solo, and Annie’s performance becomes even more dramatic and emotive, both physically and vocally. This intense crescendo quickly wraps up, leaving the listener breathless and ready to hit replay. When a song makes you feel that way, you know it’s a hit.
With its heartfelt lyrics, powerful delivery, and masterful video, “It Got Bad” is bound to resonate across multiple genres and definitely strike the country crowd with its timeless themes.
Annie & The Make Believe nailed it with this release, using the video to deepen the song’s message and giving us an experience that connects both audibly and visually.
